Another shoulder buster

Mae takes another whack at a huge rifle, firing the Mauser Tankgewehr M1918.

  1. That was a common approach to early anti-armor weapons... ... use bigger bullets! The early tanks were, IIRC, just steel plate, not very thick. Enough armor to stop conventional ammunition from rifles and machine guns, not much else.

I recall some “portable” shoulder fired weapons in the 20mm range, but only from a prone or well supported position. But not many. Towed artillery came next.

  2. I'd hate to have been standing next to a tank and caught one of those bullets in the noggin. Would've ruined my whole day.

  3. 'Somebody over watered their Mauser tree." Yeah, and maybe threw too much plant testosterone on it too!
