Don't mind us

Friend and commenter JeffS told a funny, yet ominous, story in the comments of the Sunday Funnies about the secret police in Poland back in the day. In case you missed it:

The "'We At The NSA Are Not Spying On You,' Insists Muffled Voice Coming From Tucker Carlson's Toaster" link brought back a memory ...
When I worked in Chicago, one of my co-workers was a native of the Ukraine who survived Stalin's artificial famine, the Nazi occupation, and a stint in a concentration camp.
He still had relatives in his homeland, then part of Poland, as I recall. Which, in turn, was a member of the Warsaw Pact Nations. This meant they were under Soviet occupation in all but name.
But he did visit them (at least once), and he told me how they were sitting in his hotel, talking.
I forget exactly who did it and why, but one person leaned over the radio and said (presumably in Polish), "We're hungry." And the radio responded, "So are we."
My co-worker lacked a sense of humor, so I'm pretty sure this is a true story.

  1. I believe it. I also believe the NSA is spying on Carlson, because he just has too much influence for their comfort. Bas tards.
