"Is leftism a political ideology or a religious cult?"
ReplyDeleteBrain disorder.
I'd say mostly political ideology that's replaced the religion our last few generations have jettisoned.
ReplyDeleteIt's like the worst of the middle ages Catholic Church with fewer people being burned at the stake.
Sorta funny that Trump played the part of Martin Luther.
Climate change is the cult of GimmemoneyGimmemoneyGimmemoney.
ReplyDeleteClimate change of course, obviously.
ReplyDeleteBut don't leave out white supremacy and toxic masculinity.
What's original sin, then ?
ReplyDeleteWent to a friend's funeral, the former manager/head man at the Sydney Opera House. In his final years he'd taken to preaching the gospel of climate change in colleges. Our last discussion involved him telling me how a place in Asia with a refugee border crisis - which I'd spent a long time in - was suffering from 'climate change' even though he knew nothing about the place apart from the crisis. Like original sin, it's a universal doctrine which explains everything.
This guy was born to missionaries in New Guinea, in a home where they hosted rosary gatherings every month, while my dad was agnostic and questioned everything - which I learned to do from him. I used to envy my friend's family's piety and missionary work, as we both attended a religious school. Now I'm not so sure.
I mean it bothered me for a long time how this guy with his background had somehow become a climate fanatic. A believer maybe, but a college preacher of the cult, who explained everything as 'climate change'?
ReplyDeleteThen it hit me - original sin. He'd grafted belief in human guilt about 'the environment' onto remembered childhood beliefs about original sin, 'mea maxima culpa' (everything was in Latin in our day).
We teased this guy as kids, called him 'The Bishop' because he was so straight-laced, goody goody. So 'Is it religion?' absolutely, I say.
