5 children die in bouncy castle accident in Australia.
Five children died and four others were in critical condition on Thursday after falling from a bouncy castle that was lifted 10 meters (33 feet) into the air by a gust of wind at a school on Australia's island state of Tasmania.
What a terrible, fluke accident. God bless their souls and comfort their families.
If things get that windy there, somebody's at fault for not anchoring that bouncy house down. Prayers for those poor kids and their families.
ReplyDeleteI've seen videos of similar bounce castles becoming airborne when hit by a large dust devil. I've never been around one, but are they not anchored to the ground (or supposed to be) when they are put up? If not, it's clear they should be.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, and farming, it wasn't unusual to see large dust devils form on a freshly tilled field and become quite large in a short period of time even on cloudless days with light winds. They could pick up a lot of debris and carry it hundreds of feet into the air.
Very sad. I wonder if its even possible to anchor those things properly, or if they should be regarded as very dangerous and not worth the risk.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest American friend has a farm near there in NW Tasmania, that's him in the hat:

Amazing guy from Utah, a scientist who became 'alternative' (didn't pay his student loan!) and came here in the 1970s when we met. Built a fantastic house near Byron Bay, then moved to Tasmania and did it again, this time setting up a very successful farm (organic!). In between he rode around Australia on a bullock cart. I've met similar Americans here - it seems to come from the unique American spirit. He's built several houses on his property and is offering them for anyone willing to live by his 'sustainable' philosophy, and be vegetarian...! Unlike many, I know he's totally trustworthy and sincere, a fanatic but a quiet hard working one. It takes all kinds as they say. He's living his dream.
Prayers all around.
ReplyDeleteMy friend has 2 young kids and I checked if they may be involved you see, but no.
ReplyDeleteThank God.
