And now, a word from our sponsor

  1. Funny. Although I can't envision The Duke (especially as a General) drinking a light beer of any brand. Real men don't drink light beer...or so I've heard. Wouldn't know because I'm not a beer drinker.

  2. Okay, what movie was the John Wayne part of that commercial from? It seems familiar, but I can't remember which movie and scene it was taken from. Any fans of the Duke that know?

  3. Maybe Cast A Giant Shadow?

Could be. I watched the trailer for that movie on Prime Video, and it looked like he was dressed the same. Except in the trailer he had 3 stars on his helmet, but in the commercial he only has 2 stars. Maybe he got a promotion at some point in the movie, or maybe the people doing the CG for the commercial demoted him for some reason.

  4. The Green Berets? I don't really know, but the Duke made a lot of war movies.

Anyway, I miss R. Lee Ermy's drill sergeant character. There are a lot of soybois who could use a good old fashioned arse chewing right about now.

  5. In the "Green Berets", he was a full colonel. Plus, that was a WWII uniform, not the 'Nam uniform.

I hate to say it, but I don't recognize which movie THE DUKE wears that uniform.

    :(

  6. Neither do I JeffS, but I've never seen Cast a Giant shadow.
They could have CGIed the stars and it could be from The Longest Day, he looks about the same age.

  7. I think the only movies in which John Wayne played a modern (WWII or later) general were The Longest Day and Cast a Giant Shadow. The scenes from The Longest Day show one star, plus the movie was in black and white (although I suppose a scene could have been lifted and colorized). The uniform looks almost exactly like the one in Cast a Giant Shadow except, as Rinardman first pointed out, he's wearing three stars on his helmet in the movie clip and only 2 in the commercial. I saw Cast a Giant shadow a few months ago on one of the streaming channels, but I obviously don't recall that level of detail.

Wayne made a rather large General Sherman in a short scene in How the West Was Won.
