From legend to disgrace in just a few easy steps

Mad Dog Lap Dog Mattis is even worse than I thought. I was not aware of this incident, and its aftermath, as reported by retired USMC Major, Fred Galvin, in his new book, A Few Bad Men, but I think it reveals Mattis to have been not only a vain and dishonest person, but something of a kook. Here's a brief summary by Major Galvin that appears at American Greatness.

And the title of my post is actually misleading: I don't know that Mattis has suffered much at all in the press or in the public eye with respect to his ballyhooed reputation.

  1. I bought the media hype about what a remarkable soldier "Mad Dog" Mattis, but when I mentioned him to my Marine grandson, I began to have doubts. Being active duty, my grandson couldn't say anything derogatory about Mattis, but his facial expression and body language let me know what he really thought. Grandson has since taken a medical discharge from the Marines because of back surgeries, but I won't bring up Mattis again.

    1. Please give your grandson our sincere gratitude for his service. We're both Army vets. God bless!

  2. Mattis has ensured that the media will have his back by his criticism of Trump.

  3. Imagine a Marine who bragged about lying to and disobeying his commander.
That's Mattis, who lied to and disobeyed Trump about getting our troops out of Syria.
He was the biggest disappointment under Trump.
Even more than Sessions or Barr.

  4. Rebecca: I hope your grandson recovers completely from his surgeries.

    Bucky: Exactly so.

V: I agree. I was more shocked by Mattis' in-your-face insubordination than I was by Sessions' incompetence and Barr's slippery undermining of Trump with his purposely half-ass investigations.

  5. Mattis also is up to his eyebrows with China as a consultant.

  6. JeffS: I think he's quite the (financial) mercenary.

  7. "nicknames 'chaos, mad dog, warrior monk'" Hmmm. sounds too good to be true, too Hollywood.

Compare Ike Eisenhower - quiet, methodical, you know the rest.

  8. It seems we are rapidly heading for a world devoid of honorable men.

  9. Bruce: Spot on. "Too good to be true", indeed. And as you're intimating with Eisenhower - "you know the rest" - Ike actually won a war.

  10. Grandson has fully recovered, thanks for the well wishes. Active duty personnel are forbidden to bad mouth their superior officers, so shouldn't Mattis' insubordination to Trump have been a matter for JAG? I guess not.
