I really don't understand the soft drink market

Pepsi is "sidelining" Sierra Mist again and will be marketing a new soda pop - Starry - to go up against Coke's Sprite beverage. I'm not sure why Pepsi thinks Starry will do better than Sierra Mist. The venture seems doomed - especially given Sprite's history of very sophisticated, upscale marketing.

  1. I've never been fond of lemon/lime soda so I'll probably give Starry a skip. On rare occasions and very hot days, I like a chilled Vernor's ginger ale.

    1. I have fibromyalgia which is exacerbated by lemon and lime, so those drinks are out. Water is the usual, but occasionally it's unsweetened iced tea or a ginger ale (usually Canada Dry).

  2. When I was a kid my favorite soft drink was root beer. Now I sometimes enjoy a ginger beer. In fact, I have several times brewed ginger beer and it's very easy and tasty. Other than that, not a big fan of sugary drinks.

  3. Well, when I was a kid, I'd drink about anything that was sold in vending machines, but when I got older it narrowed down to Pepsi and Sprite, and an occasional A&W root beer. I stopped drinking soft drinks about 20 years ago, and now it's only if I go to a fast-food place and get a combo meal with a soft drink. Which is rare.

    Know watta mean, Vern?

  4. In the summertime, Ma Paco would always bring a jug - a glass jug, mind you - of Dad's Root Beer home from the grocery store. We'd also drink a lot of Pepsi, and Cheerwine when we went to visit my grandparents (at the time Cheerwine was only sold in the western part of the state). I don't drink soda pop anymore, except, like R-man, when I go to a fast food place.

  5. Vernors is outstanding, but hard to find where I'm at. I drink lots of soda pop, because I don't give a rats ass, and I don't have a woman to make me walk the line.
