I recall folks saying this back then. I figured it was true. The hijackers were idiots, they got through because they were going against even more stupider folks (gov't and corporate bureaucrats), I just didn't believe they went 4 for 4.
We'll never know, but I bet the Bush gov't did. Recall how they shielded the Saudis, even getting some out when there were no flights anywhere else in the US. Before China bought our pols, the Saudis owned them. Recall the Carlyle Group.
At the time we thought GWB was setting a different course from the Clinton era - More practical and direct without all the rhetoric. But looking back it seems like the permanent Washington set were playing the long game and changes of leader mattered little.
At least Gore would not have raised our hopes only to see them evaporate.

I don't remember ever hearing any reports about this. I'm glad, though, that the would-be hijackers at least failed miserably in this attempt.

ReplyDeleteNot really. But you know what I mean: W was a colossal disappointment who did a lot of damage to the GOP brand and, more importantly, to the country.
Al Gore would have been a disaster, Bush was only a debacle.
