I live four miles from the ocean

I'm not sure that's far enough away: "Massive Great White Sharks Are Now Swarming Around North Carolina Beaches".

Researchers with OCEARCH are reporting a total of 23 Great Whites within 50 miles of the North Carolina Coastline that had previously [been] tagged with electronic trackers.
6 of the sharks in the swarm are among the biggest ever tagged in the Atlantic, ranging in size from 10 feet to 15 feet in length.

We also have hurricanes and the occasional tornado here. You know what that means.

I'm 4 miles from the other ocean, on flat ground, and in earthquake country. Every jolt that happens I wait for the roar of the tsunami.

Cape Cod is a hot spot for great white sharks on the East Coast, especially in July. The sharks are attracted by the increasing seal population, which is their major prey. Sharks can come close to the shore when they have water depth and feed on seals. There has been a dramatic increase in the seal since Monomy Island was declared a wildlife sanctuary. You can monitor shark activity with an app that supports shark research and awareness. Some beaches have been closed due to shark activity. There have been four unprovoked attacks by white sharks on humans since 2012, including one fatal attack in 2018.

I was raised on the shoreline of the Puget Sound, and I've always thought that swimming in the ocean is effectively jumping into the middle of the food chain ... ... with the advantage of the human brain and opposable thumbs erased.

It's OZ, so I'm told it's expected. Is that right? What venomous critters come with your garden spot?

" ...unprovoked attacks....". The attacks were unintentionally provoked when the victims were mistaken for seal or other desirable prey. Sharks don't generally like the taste of humans. Maybe they only go after humans in the absence of preferable prey when they are hungry.
