Springtime at the Paco Command Center

It's too early for the garden to be in full bloom, but Mrs. Paco and I, humble tillers of the soil that we are, have been doing a lot of preparation.

And as always, some of our favorite plants turn out to be things we've dug up here and there by the side of the road, or on vacant lots. Here, for example, is an Eastern prickly pear cactus that was growing on the island of a roundabout just up the street from our house. I have no idea how it got there - I suppose a bird passed a seed - but we dug this up and put it in our backyard a couple of years ago.

The magnolia is blooming, and the delicately lemon-scented flowers are present in all their pale glory.

Mrs. Paco was delighted to see one of her amaryllis plants break out in some gaudy red flowers.

And watching over all is Larry, the official guard lizard of the Paco Command Center, seen here taking cover in a potted hibiscus.

  1. It's nice to see your flora and fauna have been spared the ravages of Globull Warming. And Larry looks to be a master of the camo arts! I hope he's hell on the unwanted creepy-crawlies around the PCC.

  2. Larry and his staff favor the popular "Perennial Hibiscus" pattern; it seems to work well for them.
