Working-with-your-hands Wednesday

  1. I've always admired and envied wood artists for their skills and clever ideas. None of my stuff could ever pass muster (and I never tried large pieces. In fact, since my husband passed away, I just gave away a bag full of chisels which I know I'll never use again. Likewise with my polymer clay stuff. Maybe the creative urge will come back, but for now, nada.

  2. I remember when I was in my teens, an artist carved a huge statue of Sir Walter Raleigh out of cypress wood. He worked on the statue in the old North Hills Mall (long defunct), and I would stop and watch him work on it for a few minutes whenever I was in the mall. Sadly, the statue had an unhappy end. Interestingly, it was the largest moveable wooden sculpture in the world - while it lasted.
