Working-with-your-hands Wednesday
This guy did a really nice job fixing up an old 1902 S&W revolver.
Huge grips, huh? Know who has really big hands? Hickok 45, that's who!
Though it seems to me that if he had this gun and found the grips too small, he'd just pass it along to somebody more suited than butcher the gun. And anyway, this guy looks like he did the firearm justice.
It did my heart good to watch him unscrew the cylinder stop and slide it out.
Back when I got my Model 28 (N frame) after a few weeks of shooting the cylinder developed a tendency to slide out the frame when open. Uh oh. I pondered taking it to a gunsmith but wanted to see if it was something I could fix. Eventually I stumbled across a video where the guy unscrewed that screw and slid out the cylinder... oh! Ran to the safe and pulled mine out, and sure enough, the screw had backed out just enough to let the stop go by without standing proud enough to be obvious. Maybe a half turn, and problem fixed!
And I learned something to check on a revolver. Useful to keep in mind when speaking with one of the diehards who will still claim that revolvers are the mostest reliablest things ever because they never jam or break! I always assume those people have never opened the side plate and seen what goes on inside one.

When Hickok45 holds up his hands, it puts me in mind of the Creature from the Black Lagoon.
