Most big bands back in the 30's and 40's had smaller groups drawn from the larger organization that would record from time to time. Benny Goodman had his trios, quartets and quintets, Tommy Dorsey had his Clambake Seven, Bob Crosby had his Bobcats. Artie Shaw had the Grammercy Five, which was unique in that the keyboard man (in this case, Johnny Guarnieri) frequently played the harpsichord. Here's one of the outfit's most notable recordings, "Summit Ridge Drive".

Thank you, Paco! That's a real toe tapper! And when it finished, there was John Denver's 1979 BBC Talk of the Town concert in London. It's fantastic! It was interesting that Rocky Mountain High isn't included, although it's a sure bet that it was in the concert. Wonder why it wasn't shown?
