Interesting...

Julia Child's first recipe of note was for shark repellant.

  1. Wow. That is interesting. It's amazing what you find out about people. For instance, the actress Hedy Lamarr (and I'm old enough to have seen some of her movies on TV) was a patented inventor, and actress Audrey Hepburn was a clandestine courier for the Resistance during WWII. We still produce people like them, but they don't get much recognition in today's society.

  2. Michael Jackson was also an inventor, not as heady as Hedy, his invention locked your shoes to the floor for his "anti gravity" dance move.

  3. Fascinating. I never knew that.

  4. Rebecca: Hedy Lamarr was definitely not just another pretty face. The technology she worked on in connection with an anti-jamming system was way ahead of its time.

  6. When Hedy invented that anti-jamming system, she actually invented spread spectrum technology, which is what made cellular phones possible. Given that all the electronic equipment back then was analog, it was difficult to implement that system on a practical level. Unfortunately. It wasn't until chip technology moved to an adequate level that it was possible. And even then, it was first used by the military for secure communications.

So, yeah, she was WAY ahead of her time.

  7. When I was a kid, I thought it was called 'The French Chef' because she was French. I later found out she was actually born in Pasadena. I think it was because of her weird accent.

  8. Yeah, I thought she was a "furriner", too. That accent is mighty hard to pin down.

  9. If you swipe down on the youtube shorts you'll occasionally come to a war hero.
I've seen Jimmy Stewart's exploits as a bomber pilot, Lee Marvin's Marine exploits and more.
They don't grow up like that anymore.

  10. V: I've got a couple more of those I'm going to post tomorrow. And that's exactly the thought that I had: they don't make 'em like that anymore.
