Happy Feet Friday

Timme Rosenkrantz was an interesting character: a Danish aristocrat, he became a big fan of American jazz and produced a number of recordings with small groups and larger bands, fronting a few of these outfits himself (under the name Timmie Rosenkrantz and his Barrel House Barons). The recording below ("Bouncy") features some fine work by Red Norvo on the vibes, Charlie Ventura on tenor sax, O.J. Hardwick on alto sax, and H.H. Carney on baritone sax, among others.

  1. I must confess some shock to find a Danish guy named Rosenkrantz.

All along I thought Shakespeare just made the name up. Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern? They always sounded like a Borsch Belt comedy duo from the Twenties to me. Did Will page through a Danish phone book looking for good names for his side characters in Hamlet?

  2. Yeah, they do sound a bit like a comedy team.
