"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
Oops! Hate when that happens.
ReplyDelete"If we can't sell your home, we'll burn it down so you can collect the insurance!"
ReplyDeleteYeah, '2 million dollar' is a bit redundant. You'll notice nothing fancy about the house but it's in Sydney's prestigious Northern Beaches, where 2 million would just be the basic price for anything, maybe just land price. It's like Sydney's Long Island.
ReplyDeleteHouse across the road from me sold for one million 4 years ago. Our land is worth 3/4 of that.
(Also A$ 1.00 is US$ 0.65)
Sydney where I was born, and my ancestors have roots going back to settlement, but can barely afford to live here on the gentrified fringes now.
It's tough to be land poor, because the liberal politicians want to soak the rich with high taxes to create programs to help the poor, but end up pushing out the poor with the high land taxes.
ReplyDeleteThing is, almost half of Australia's population now are postwar immigrants. Such a huge country, it made sense to boost the population after WW2. But everyone wants to live in the main cities: mostly Sydney and Melbourne. Sydney is bounded by rough mountainous land forming the Sydney Basin, so there's limited space: pressure cooker.
ReplyDeleteBTW check out the location of that burnt house: search 'Riverview Rd Avalon NSW'. 2 million is cheap for that spectacular aspect overlooking Pittwater - one of the world's most beautiful harbours, mostly undeveloped.
Hope Pittwater stays undeveloped.
DeleteOn the upside, no more worries about dinner plate sized funnel webs in the ceiling!
ReplyDeleteBarbecue funnel-web spider, yum! Spicy!
ReplyDeleteYou'll notice nothing fancy about the house...
ReplyDeleteWell, not now, that's for sure!
It's a fixer upper. Perfect for a reality TV show. The price might increase if it were rebuilt/updated on tv.
