I had a friend who served in the Navy at that time, and was on a ship that was supposed to offer aid and support. Then they got the order to stand down. Decades later, he still got infuriated when he repeated the story.

Well, abandoning patriots and freedom fighters is the Democrat way. Every Democrat president since JFK has abandoned someone.
