Pasadena is the city of roses, Wilmington (NC) is the city of azaleas...

...and Hollywood is the city of a$$holes: "‘Reacher’ Star Alan Ritchson Fires Back at Fraternal Order of Police, Praises Himself for ‘Courage’ to Criticize Cops".

I watched the first two seasons of Reacher on Amazon Prime. The first season was interesting, if somewhat egregiously violent. The second season was a confusing riot of new characters, pointless subplots, and choppy directing.  - plus, the Bruce-Lee-like efficiency of the new players, both male and female, was simply not credible. Won't be watching anymore.

I saw Reacher I and II on Amazon Prime. The first one was kind of okay, even though I thought Ritchson's acting was pretty dull. The second one was total dreck and Ritchson came across as an autistic jock who only knows how to kill people. I won't bother with the third.

Yeah, that's where we saw it, too, Amazon Prime. My mistake (I don't know why I was thinking of Netflix).

Your assessment is spot on.

How stunning! How brave!
Why, only 99% of Hollywood has the courage to do this!
What would be brave would be praising cops, but then he'd never work in that town again.

The response to Ritchson's idiotic comments has been deservedly harsh.

'While Mr. Ritchson gets his face and forehead powdered on set, our officers are out doing a job he doesn’t have the courage to do.

While he gets to hear loud pops and have blanks fired at him, our officers feel the heat of the bullets as they pierce their skin.'

Yep same here. I read and enjoyed most of the books even though they were all cookie cutter.
Reacher gets off the bus, Reacher stumbles across some nasty people that were being nasty to a pretty woman and her crippled parents, Reacher kicks the crap out of the nasty people, Reacher has sweet sex with the pretty woman, Reacher gets back on the bus without looking back.
What's not to like. Well then Bad Luck and Trouble came out and Reacher teams up with his old army friends and it turns into an episode of Secret Seven. That was the basis of the second season and it didn't work at all for me.
When the first season came out and they had cast the unknown musclebound actor I thought he was perfect for the job. All the big fella had to do was act dumb, pretend to fight, pretend to have sex with the pretty woman and he had a guarranteed carreer with a huge established following.

Then he opened his stupid mouth. I wonder which bridge his agent jumped off.

That was from me.

I offer only a narrow disagreement. I have enjoyed the Reacher books. Child has an incredibly dry writing style. The character is an interesting concoction although his actions are entirely predictable. Yes, it’s cookie-cutter: Get off the bus, kick lots of ass and savor one as a prize, walk away. It seems to scratch an itch a lot of us have.

The second season was over the top. Not even Reacher can hold onto a gurney to which a woman is strapped dangling outside of an airplane with one hand while fighting off a goon with the other. No woman unstraps herself and climbs back into the airplane to join the fight. Such cartoonish sequences, apparently written by a 10-year-old, destroy whatever interest in the characters you might have had. Those are good reasons to skip the next season.

It doesn’t take a master actor to play Reacher, just size and a deadpan demeanor.
Ritchson has those qualities. That he is also an idiot is indisputable. But the art world is filled with stupid, nasty people who turn in remarkable performances in quality productions. I can (usually) enjoy the art and ignore the personal shortcomings.

Wagner was a nasty man who created masterful operas. And, despite his sins, all those old Bill Cosby routines are still funny. Ritchson doesn’t have much on the positive side of the ledger, but if the Reacher series had decent writing and direction, I would still watch it.

Of course, everything now is political, especially in Hollywood. So Ritchson’s comments just might kill the golden goose, and that’s definitely a show worth watching.

To be clear, the reason I won't be watching anymore is precisely because of the ridiculous plotting and writing that marked the second season (a phenomenon that I believe is unlikely to be reversed). Ritchson is simply the virtue-signaling dumbass that he is, and that, alone, wouldn't stop me watching the series. If that were the case, I would never have watched a Robert Redford movie.

Btw, one show I've been watching with great interest is Dark Winds, based on Tony Hillerman's Navajo characters Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee. There are two seasons that have been broadcast, and they're both very good (I'm a sucker for desert locales). Season three is set to premier in 2025.
