"More 1984 Than You Can Imagine".
Did you know that Donald Trump was almost assassinated on July 13th?
Google autocomplete doesn't, and neither does MetaAI (Facebook's AI). For all they know, nothing at all happened on July 13th.
No, I am not joking. It is really true and a good example of how search algorithms and AI models can be manipulated to create a reality utterly at odds with the "facts."
Another interesting variation on the 1984 theme is that we've gone from the "two-minute hate" to "24/7 hate" when it comes to Trump and conservatives in general.
These companies act as de facto parastatal monopolies and should be dealt with as such.
Google is claiming that there was no manual intervention to disappear the assassination attempt, but rather the algorithm is designed to shield us from sensitive and harmful material.
ReplyDeleteBecause we can't handle the truth. We're too weak and stupid to deal with the left's constant murder porn. We are not supposed to notice that they've been jerking off to death fantasies against us for at least two decades. Anybody remember the media (think it was Rolling Stone) publishing an article on wanting to "hate f*ck" Sarah Palin? And before you alt-right wingnuts get the vapors, no, "hate f*ck" is not a euphemism for rape, you sickos! (Narrator: it is indeed a euphemism for rape)
Remember the old "The More You Know" PSAs on TV? Now its "The Less You Know, The Better, Proles!"
ReplyDeleteBTW, what happened to the comments page? Does it just suck for me, or is it everyone?
R-man: I didn't do anything. On my cell phone, it doesn't look any different; but when I open it on my computer, the comments page fills the screen.
ReplyDeleteIt's different on my Kindle Fire tablet too. It's got options to Collapse All Comments or Expand All Comments.
ReplyDeletethe choice of who to comment as is different too.
ReplyDeleteI changed the format to embedded comment. Still looks different.
ReplyDeleteI'm seeing a new comments format too. Must be something they did at head office.
ReplyDeleteAlso, it doesn't remember previous comments, so I have to enter my details if I don't want to post as Anonymous.
I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing what's happened to the comments. Evidently Blogger did it (I guess). There are some improvements, such as an edit function and a reply function, but it's a pain to have to type my name in every time. At least it hasn't demanded that I fill in a URL, because I didn't.
