...is more wombat. Take it away, George!
Update There has been some speculation in the comments about whether you can make a pet out of a wombat. Apparently, the answer is no. Here are the top two reasons why wombats don't make good pets:
1) It’s a wild animal that you cannot tame, even after years in captivity. Your wombat will always attempt to escape and may bite you in the process.
2) Wombats produce more than 100 pieces of poop each day.
Wonder if wombats make good pets? A problem with many wild critters is that they often don't fully domesticate.
ReplyDeleteOf course, most humans could probably handle an enraged wombat going feral. I'd be most concerned about how well they take to house training.
Cute little critter!
ReplyDeleteHow big do wombats grow? Cute and cuddly might not last into adulthood ... ...
ReplyDeleteMight be a step up from a pet raccoon, but probably a small step.
ReplyDeleteShoulda led with the poop thing, 1) sounds like a challenge.
ReplyDeleteWho drew the short straw on the counting job?
ReplyDeleteI read the article. There's a detail to the poop that I find mind boggling:
ReplyDeleteWombats mark their territory with unique cubic feces that they can stack. They are quite prolific with their territory markings and produce up to 100 cubic feces each night. The Wombat may also use these feces to attract a mate.
That's very different from any animal I've ever seen or read about. Not to mention the potential for scatological humor is HUGE .....
I have seen plenty of wombats that were sort of domesticated where they hang around the property and interact with humans, even strangers. The little ones (called Joeys just like kangaroos) are cute and playful
ReplyDeletebut definitely are outside pets they love to dig big holes.
Their poops are numerous but are clean and make good fertiliser and are unique in that they are cube shaped so they won't roll away.
Whoa! I just managed to stop myself from being lead down the wombat cubic poop hole.
ReplyDeleteWell, that doesn't sound right, does it.
True story, not a lie, as your soon to be ex-prez if fond of saying. The wombat poop pellets are mostly cubed shaped. It makes you wonder about the rear end anatomy of the wombat.
DeleteAnon = Mick; if=is
DeleteAnd I don't blame you for not entering that phrase into your
search history.
Wild animals are not meant to be pets. How our ancestors managed it over thousands of years I'll never know, but well, it took thousands of years.
