"There are countless horrible things happening all over the world and horrible people prospering, but we must never allow them to disturb our equanimity or deflect us from our sacred duty to sabotage and annoy them whenever possible." -Auberon Waugh
That girl has chops, as the jazz guys say. Apparently the term originally meant strong jaw to play trumpet. But anyway, for someone who mostly aims at the pop market, Vanessa Mae can really play well. Wow.

Gee, Bruce, you know everybody. I had never heard of her.
DeleteShe was well known in the British sphere in the 1990s. I think she toured Oz so many times everyone knew her face. But my favorite type of music is the one whose stars almost never toured here: postbop jazz, like Coltrane. Grass is greener across the Atlantic, eh?

One of the things that makes music fun is the variety of musical intruments that can make the same song entertaining in so many different ways. For instance, here's Tiffany playing La Campenella on the piano
ReplyDeleteIt's arranged by Liszt, who did piano arrangements of almost everything including all Beethoven symphonies. In the days before records that was how people heard stuff like Wagner operas at home. Funny thing, my great grandfather made his fortune selling pianos in Sydney in the late 1800s when pianos were the 'home entertainment center'. But he had 4 wives and lots of kids so the fortune dissipated and my dad supported us driving a truck!

Four wives? That's a heapin' helpin' of the triumph of hope over experience.
DeleteSure is.
