From everything in the article, Brian should definitely be freed! If Brian was such a threat he wouldn't have returned to his parents' house as requested. As to the comment to his mother that sparked the entire incident, those that are going to commit suicide usually don't talk about it. They just do it. Although he might have done what is referred to as a "suicide gesture". Now he and his family have bigger things to worry about.
