The writer also has a book called 'Snake Oil'. But I find this young Pottinger fellow especially worrying - read about the influence he had on Trump's WH for example.

ReplyDeleteI'd argue that the problem is naivete all round Rebecca, including Trump in this case. Someone needed to just step back and say, Whoa, wait a minute, how much do we really know about diseases like this?

which argues that the disease had been around the world for months before the 'crisis' in Italy, so it may not have even come from China (or anywhere - maybe it was all around us and dormant like they now say polio is).
I can read Chinese and studied their history, and I have some contacts from inside China. My view is they are dumber than people realise (look at how they're destroying themselves with lockdowns now). They just aren't smart enough to be planning this,and are just as bewildered as everyone else but their strategy is to lash out - because that keeps the peasants united and takes the heat off the elites.
But yeah, Pottinger comes out looking like a Manchurian Candidate. If he was older and had grown up with Dr Strangelove and all that he would realise that, but he's young, naive and capable, and seems to have won Trump's support - a perfect storm, blundering into this mess.
For someone whose catch-phrase was, "You're fired!", he sure trusted a lot of the wrong people.
ReplyDeleteIf I could be sure he'd learned something from his terrible experiences with personnel in government, I'd be less concerned about his candidacy and possible victory. Naturally, I'd gladly support him against any Democrat, but I go back and forth in my own mind as to whether DeSantis or somebody similar might not be a better president (but would such a person be a better candidate? There are always wheels within wheels).

You could run a Papa John's Pizza against whoever the Dems end up with and win (before all the cheating, after all bets are off).
I'm leaning DeSantis. I'll vote for him in the primary if he's in it. That doesn't mean I'm agin Trump, Trump was awesome, but DeSantis has political folks he can bring to DC to carry the skulls of his enemies for his throne.
