Now if you go to the beach in North Carolina, you not only have to worry about great white sharks, you have to worry about great white phosphorus bombs.

My stepfather's brother once bagged a WWII-era mine in the net of his fishing boat off the Outer Banks. I'm sure that was good for a laugh - way after the fact.

The safest plan seems to be stick to picking up seashells, driftwood, sea glass, coins, and jewelry.
