Next time, take the train

I haven't flown in over a decade, and I'm not about to start doing it again anytime soon: "US airlines warn C-Band 5G could cause 'catastrophic disruption'".

The airline industry claims a “catastrophic” event could unfold on Wednesday when AT&T and Verizon activate their new C-Band 5G networks. In a letter obtained by Reuters, the CEOs of several prominent passenger and cargo airlines, including Delta, United and Southwest, warn interference from 5G cell towers could affect the sensitive safety equipment on their planes.

I live near Phoenix' airport.
If planes start falling out of the sky, I could be in trouble.
The worst part?
If I'm squished flat it'll be another covid-related death.
And the even worster part?
I'll start voting Dem!

Yeah, this has been bouncing around for a while.

The federal agencies responsible for wireless communications and air safety (FCC, FAA) just yawn. There's an effort to shut down or limit 5G networks near airports, but clearly, no one was concerned enough to question the concept before the roll out started.

Yet another reason not to fly.

V: All of those are valid concerns. Maybe you ought to think about moving to Sedona or Prescott.

I made the decision not to fly anymore a decade and a half ago. It was a combination of every flight afflicted with at least one drunk, flight delays, and being treated like cattle by the TSA. Nothing I've read or heard since then has changed my mind.

I stopped flying because of the TSA.
I don't like being in the power of entitled Napoleons who can make the next 72 hours of my life hell if they decide to.
The DMV with police powers is not a place I want to be.

The last time I flew, those entitled Napoleons threatened me with "the backroom" after I protested the seizure of a small partial tube of unfluorinated toothpaste. This was a hard to find commodity. Of course, they did suggest that I take it down to the counter and put it in baggage. But, I pointed out, it would mean getting someone to wheel me downstairs, wait in line, find the case, put the offending item in, wheel back up, wait in line....miss my flight.

Now if only I were a foreign national antisemite whose "sister" is a incarcerated convicted terrorist. I would still have my toothpaste.

They'll wave you through.
