Some interesting observations from back in the day

"Uncle Scotty", a retired member of the LAPD, talks about one of his service revolvers, and a couple of troublesome holsters (I had never heard of a clamshell holster; it seems to have been a...bit of a problem).

  1. I've always wondered why they used revolvers instead of a 1911.

I'd never heard of a clamshell holster.
It looks unsafe, like the revolver could bounce around and get jammed.

  2. I suspect that semi-autos weren't favored because of bureaucratic inertia, cheapskates, and morons.

Think about it. Revolvers worked in the past, and they will work in the future.
Plus, wheel guns are simpler to use and easier to maintain, and you'll burn less ammo (potentially) in training.

The moron part? "Who needs 7+1 rounds? You ought to hit your target with the first few rounds, without reloading! I can do that, anyone can!"

The clam holster ... ... I vaguely recall hearing about it, but almost like a myth. I can see why, it's a holster designed to fail. Oy!

  3. I guess they considered themselves lucky not to have been issued black powder cap and ball pistols.
