It's too late in the case of John Oliver, unfortunately, since I believe he has already become a U.S. citizen. But we certainly don't need anymore like him: "John Oliver Ignores the IDF’s Strenuous Efforts to Avoid Civilian Casualties".

ReplyDeleteYes, it's noticeable. Many are just ruthlessly on-the-make. I fear that the prospect of making it in America gives some gold-fever. It seems Oliver got his first taste of the path to superstardom writing for the Daily Show, and appearing on it.
ReplyDeleteThe British attitude to Israel is complicated. My dad remembered Israeli terror attacks against the British 'Palestine' administration in the 1940s which coloured his attitude.

But that's no excuse for Oliver promoting misinformation.
And despite what the article implies, violent opposition to British rule did not start in the 1940s Mandate, but can be traced back a century before in, say, India. The Irgun and Haganah were more systematic and effective however. So I guess they were hated for being more capable and organised. Oh, "those crafty and devious Jews"! Unlike my dad's generation, I admire Israelis for their brilliance combined with humanity.
