Home again, home again...

...jiggity jog. We came back a day early.

We attended a memorial service for the mother of a boyhood friend of mine in Cary, NC (she died back in May). It was a lot of fun catching up with people I hadn't seen in probably 40 or more years.

Then we swung by Virginia Beach to visit Number One Son and Maggie (grandson Cal was visiting with his other grandmother). The USS Battleship Wisconsin is moored alongside the Nautica museum in Norfolk, and we took a self-guided tour. Y-u-g-e. Here's her history.

The last photo above shows the emblem that the "Wisky" bore when she was assigned to Carrier-Destroyer Group Eight during Desert Storm.

It was fascinating to see this enormous ship, and to get some kind of idea of what it must have been like living aboard her for months at a time. I have to tell you, though, that I have never experienced hotter, muggier weather in my life than aboard that ship. They had a couple of big fans going in the galley, and, man, did that feel good.

Contrary to what JeffS intimated, I was not involved in the coup against Biden. Frankly, I wanted to see him stay in the race. And now we have Cackles. I believe Trump will win, but if he doesn't - either losing in a fair election (Haw!) or suffering defeat in another massive cheat - then it will be pretty obvious that we have become a one-party state. There are so many idiots on that side of the political divide, however, that the main question then becomes whether the donks will have time to completely destroy our culture and ruin our economy before they collapse under the weight of the consequences of their own ideological fatuity and political corruption.

That may be our last, best hope. Even if Trump wins, there will still be too many RINOs and Never-Trumpers in DC to neutralize the Dimocrats completely. We can only hope they self-destruct.

  2. We're at more than 70% of taxes are required to pay the debt.
The end is not far at all.

  3. Welcome back Paco, glad you had a good time. Those Iowa class ships are really beautiful. I was lucky enough to get a look around the Missouri when it was out here in 1988 and it was truly awesome.
I wanted to ask if Cackles is locked in or can the Dems go with someone else at their convention?
I thought they might go with Big Mike, as they call Michelle over at the Feral Irishman.

  5. Mick, according to the following, 'it is unknown' whether Harris is locked in at this stage. More details here:

  6. It's the Dimocrats, Mick. They can, and will, do whatever they damwell please. The rules don't apply to them, only their opponents.

For them, it's not who the candidate is, it's how they make enough votes to win.

  7. Welcome back, Pacos. I'm glad it was a pleasant visit and not an emergency.

  8. Aw, shucks, Paco, I was kinda hoping ... ...

I toured the Missouri when she was mothballed in Bremerton. Yes, those battleships are VERY impressive!

Sadly, the aircraft carrier took over the lead in sea power, and that era has passed.
