ReplyDeleteIn high school we did a production of Godspell, with a black Jesus even (he's Tamil from Mauritius: French Catholics). It was wonderful. But those days may be fading as audiences age, in the era of Tiktok.

You know, in the right hands, this might actually have been interesting and entertaining. Perhaps it might have featured a sub-plot, featuring a romance between, say, Susan B. Anthony and Boss Tweed.
DeleteYeah, agreed. Even a sub plot with some hetero romance chemistry would bring punters. Ford Maddox Ford's novel/s Parade's End are about 'the last Tory' having an affair with a young suffragette (forbidden love). But somehow they never seen to be able to 'consumate' while his wife is having it off with everyone except him. Waugh was inspired by the novel.
