My first ship in the Navy we did a burial at sea, of a Korean War vet. For whatever reason I was picked to command the honor guard. I any event it was a scattering of ashes and not sliding the body into the water.
ReplyDeleteHave to admit I was a bit apprehensive about the risk of the ashes being caught by the wind and blown up over us. This was about twenty years before that exact scene was enacted in The Big Lebowsky.
It’s less creepy if you’ve spread the ashes of your loved ones yourself. I imagine that cowboy would have smiled and nodded approvingly.
