Happy Feet Friday

Without a doubt, Lionel Hampton was one of the most exciting bandleaders of his era - by which I mean that he and his bands not only made great music, they looked great doing it, as exemplified in this video clip from (I believe) the early 1950s. The tune is called "Cobb's Idea" (note the brief, but outstanding, scat-singing solo by Betty Carter). In the last minute, Hampton is bobbing and weaving and juggling his drumsticks, Milt "The Beast" Buckner is pounding the piano as if he's trying to turn it into kindling, and some guy in the trumpet section throws his mute in the air like it's a mortarboard hat on graduation day. Very lively performance.

Let us once again join Kurt Schlichter in laughing at the NeverTrumpsters.

A glorious sample from his most recent piece:
Just look at Senator for Some Reason Mitt Romney. The guy I am sorry I voted for in 2012 is always eager to say something prissy about the president to try to please the same people who, back in 2012, accused him of being a racist and giving a lady cancer. For his obedience, he gets a tasty treat and a pat on the head, like the good doggie he is. But everyone knows that if the elite ever thought that the Distinguished Gentleman From Whatever State He Thinks He Can Get Elected In Next might actually pose a threat to the status quo, he’d be figuratively caged up and driven to Canada on the roof.

I suspect this exchange is...apocryphal

I'm not believing it unless Kristol can produce a tape: Bill Kristol and the "Reagan Republican" gate agent.

Sorry for the spoiler

Rep. Eric Swalwell, one of precisely umpteen Democrats currently angling for the presidential nomination, just let the cat out of the bag: he is a white man.

He really comes across as woke, until Candace Owens knocks him out.

Bernie Sanders is trying to get him a piece of a natural Democrat constituency

"'If somebody commits a serious crime, sexual assault, murder, they're going to be punished,' he said. 'They may be in jail for 10 years, 20 years, 50 years, their whole lives. That's what happens when you commit a serious crime. But I think the right to vote is inherent to our democracy. Yes, even for terrible people.'"

Word to the wise: be careful in responding to your doorbell around election time.

"Good afternoon, ma'am. We was woikin' here in the neighborhood, pickin' up road trash, and figured we'd do a little canvassin' for Bernie Sanders. We're sure he'd appreciate your support in November. Say, dis is quite a jurnt ya got here! Be a shame what somethin' should happen to it. Da name's 'Sanders'. Youse'll remember dat, now, won't ya? Have a nice day, lady!"

Why, indeed?

Paul Joseph Watson asks why is there such a discrepancy between reporting on Muslim-sponsored massacres of Christians, and extremist attacks on mosques.

Part of the answer - not the whole answer, to be sure - is that Islam is not a western belief system, is not, like Christianity, a fundamental building block of western civilization, which the Left is hell-bent on destroying; therefore, attacks on Christians and their places of worship is just part of the completely understandable chipping away of our hopelessly biased culture. Whereas the lamentations in the press and among Democrat politicians over attacks on Muslims and their symbols are part and parcel of the Left's promotion of "diversity" as a method of weakening our culture so that it can ultimately be replaced with a completely secular - and conveniently statist - way of life. Muslims who take comfort in the "protectiveness" of the Left today likely will find that they are simply among those useful political tools destined to be crushed at some future date.

I wonder what happens to people who don't cheer well-known abusive boss and Democrat presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar?

Not surprising, but still pretty harsh. She might want to work on that anger management thing.

Fun size

Couldn't pass up another good deal on a military/police surplus firearm. This one is a Zastava M70, made in old Yugoslavia, and it came with a holster and an extra magazine. It's chambered in 7.65, or .32 Auto, as it's known under the American classification. Although generally considered an anemic caliber today, it was very popular many years ago for carry by private citizens, and also among police departments in Europe. I've always wanted something in this caliber, to round out the collection, and if I start doing New York reloads (i.e., carrying an extra gun), maybe this will come in handy. The magazine holds eight rounds, and the holster has a pouch for an extra mag. After cleaning all the cosmoline off of the gun, I took it down to the range and it performed flawlessly. It also turned out to be very accurate, and offered almost no felt recoil. The rifling in the barrel is exceptionally good, and there's no pitting anywhere that I can see. If nothing else, it's a nice little plinker.

Very devious

I'm beginning to think that the secret chairman of the Committee to Re-elect Donald Trump is Rep. Omar.

Update: And she's being ably assisted by Comrades Harris and Sanders.

This is not your grandfather's Democratic Party; although it is starting to sound an awful lot like your grandfather's Communist Party.

Another infamous act

May God bless the souls of those people, mostly Christians, who died in the most recent Islamic terrorist outrage in Sri Lanka, and help the injured to recover.

Update: Apparently, both Obama and Hillary couldn't recall the word "christian" when offering condolences to the victims of terrorism, referring, instead, to "Easter worshipers" - which briefly conjured up a vision in my mind of thousands of people cowering before a giant stone idol of a scowly-faced rabbit. Well, can't take the chance of getting pegged as Islamaphobes, I suppose, which could happen if they mentioned the fact that there are other religions in the world besides Islam.

Update - It certainly was: "it was a coup attempt to destroy the presidency".

Not that I needed any more reasons to detest Mueller...

...but Rep. Louie Gohmert brings something new (to me, anyway), so it's valuable to know:
“I gave him a pass the very first time I questioned him years ago, when he was FBI director,” recalled Gohmert. “But then after that, I found out how much damage he was doing to the FBI, more than anybody, including Hoover in his worst days. It was astounding. He ran off thousands and thousands of years of experienced special agents in charge of offices, often went from having 25 years experience to five or six years experience. He did not want anything but yes-men.

Happy Easter!

At daybreak on the first day of the week
the women who had come from Galilee with Jesus
took the spices they had prepared
and went to the tomb.
They found the stone rolled away from the tomb;
but when they entered,
they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
While they were puzzling over this, behold,
two men in dazzling garments appeared to them.
They were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground.
They said to them,
"Why do you seek the living one among the dead?
He is not here, but he has been raised.
Remember what he said to you while he was still in Galilee,
that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners
and be crucified, and rise on the third day."
And they remembered his words.
Then they returned from the tomb
and announced all these things to the eleven
and to all the others.
The women were Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James;
the others who accompanied them also told this to the apostles,
but their story seemed like nonsense
and they did not believe them.
But Peter got up and ran to the tomb,
bent down, and saw the burial cloths alone;
then he went home amazed at what had happened.

It doesn’t matter whether these beliefs are actually true, what matters is that each side is filled with a profound hatred of the other, and so the war between them is still raging

No, I definitely don't think the kind of Republican who wins in Massachusetts is preferable to Donald Trump.

On another topic, don't be fooled by the hype on Democrat Pete Buttigieg; he is a garden variety leftist prick.

This is the kind of photo that makes my skin crawl (i.e., two Democrats holding American flags). America as either one of these two envision it would ultimately be a country of socio-economic decline and cultural destruction, inevitably dystopian and completely cut off from the liberty-affirming principles of its founders.

An interesting story in the Daily Mail today: "Ken Starr says Hillary Clinton DID trigger Vince Foster's suicide when she humiliated him in front of White House staff and admits he omitted the finding in FBI report because he didn't want to 'inflict further pain' on her".

I find it strange that Starr didn't reveal this to Hillary because he didn't want to cause her any more pain. What about the pain experienced by Foster's family and colleagues? Why was it ok for them to wonder what triggered his suicide, for some of them perhaps to torment themselves with guilt? And here's a thought: if Hillary had been told this back when it happened, there's at least a small chance that it might have knocked some of the arrogance and viciousness out of her, had a humbling effect. Possibly not. Probably not, I'm afraid. But I submit that it would have been worth trying.

I saw the Netflix film, The Highwaymen, recently and really enjoyed it. It's a very useful corrective to Hollywood's previous glamorization of the murderous exploits of Bonnie and Clyde, and the leftist, post-modern context of Arthur Penn's 1967 film (which, incidentally, shamelessly slandered lawman Frank Hamer). David Forsmark at PJ Media has some good background.
