I guess I ought to conserve my resources...

...while continuing to add to them, while I can - "Democrat Party Platform: Ban Online Ammo Sales, License All Gun Owners".

The licensing is bad enough, but is also something that one might conceivably dodge; banning online ammo sales would be a huge nuisance. I don't know how much, or even if, any of this would affect reloaders; I don't believe the platform addresses that issue. But the donks will get around to it, mark my word.

Of course, the best medicine for the plague of gun control is to keep the Democrats out of power everywhere we can. If Trump wins, I'm really going to have to focus on stocking up on everything I need over the next four years (beyond four years, the crystal ball grows very cloudy).

Update  Interesting: "Ruger to Acquire Marlin Firearms".
After approval from the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama, Ruger released the following statement this evening: Sturm, Ruger and Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) announced today that its offer to purchase substantially all of the Marlin Firearms assets was accepted by Remington Outdoor Company, Inc. and approved by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama. The Company will pay the $30 million purchase price from cash on hand at the time of closing, which is expected to occur in October.

I believe this can only benefit the Marlin brand, which I have heard has been languishing somewhat under Remington's control.

Suck it up, buttercup

Uh oh. Now he's done it: President Trump's debate performance apparently made a little girl cry : "Jake Tapper Claims President Trump Made Little Girl Burst Into Tears and Run to Bed as She Watched the Debate."

I demand that this claim be fact-checked (by somebody other than Chris Wallace). How do we know that the little girl didn't run away after glimpsing Gropey Joe Biden on the screen?

BTW, the attempt by Biden to label the Proud Boys as white supremacists was yet another slanderous attempt by a Democrat to cancel anyone not explicitly on the left. Hell, if there were a chapter nearby, I might join the outfit myself. So far, they're one of the few rightist organizations that have shown a taste for fighting back. And we're going to need street fighters before this civil war trial run is over (and either peters out because the normals emphatically say "Enough!", or continues to develop into something more widespread and destructive).

Update  Veeshir, in the comments:

And that little girl's name? Jake Tapper.

Dang!

First, the deer and the rabbits help themselves to the Paco All-You-Can-Eat Buffet, wolfing down my Mexican petunias and my green beans, and this weekend I saw a turtle moving at speed (for a turtle) from among the new mum plantings, which I strongly suspect he pigged out on.

Introducing Seabiscuit, the official turtle of Paco Enterprises.

He (or she, as the case may be) is a sizable fellow; the shell measured about 8 inches long. I'm not sure what kind it is. We're not up against a pond or creek, so maybe it's a tortoise of some kind. Notice the olive drab, probably military spec, carapace.

Wait, this can't be

I thought stone-cold professional and all-around straight arrow FBI Director Christopher Wray said he didn't have any evidence of significant voter fraud.

A Biden Campaign operative in Texas is attempting to rig the 2020 election with the help of others in a massive ballot harvesting scheme, according to two private investigators who testified under oath that they have “video evidence, documentation and witnesses” to prove it. With the help of mass mail-in ballots, the illegal ballot harvesting operation could harvest 700,000 ballots, one Harris County Democrat operative allegedly bragged.

Hmm. Maybe Wray should be fired before the election.

It's like I always say

 Animals know.

Reporters for CBS News and other outlets were sent scrambling Monday morning after an aggressive raccoon began attacking news crews outside the White House.

Update  Veeshir, in the comments: "Raccoons are attracted to trash after all."

Short cynical rant

Do you suppose John Durham suddenly expanded his investigation to include the Clinton Foundation in order to justify not releasing a report until after the election? And do you suppose that, after the election, we're going to get the same old "no evidence of a crime" b.s.? It's difficult to see how a two-year investigation into something as big as a coup attempt hasn't generated more then one indictment (and that one on relatively minor charges). Next, I suppose Durham will decide that he needs to take a hard look at the Missouri Compromise or the accounting for the construction of the Panama Canal.

Seriously, I may just secede all by myself. Pacovia will need a flag and a national anthem, so I'd better get cracking.

Totalitarianism

Sometimes it gallops, sometimes it creeps: Berkeley becomes 1st city to ban junk food at grocery store checkouts.

How does a city government - or any other government - presume to have the right to do things like this? Keep it up, citizens of Berkeley, keep putting these meddlesome, officious little Kommissars on your city council. One of these days, you're going to vote yourselves straight into a concentration camp.

Like Cuba?

One-half of the most obnoxious couple in Hollywood sees a mass migration looming.

Pop star John Legend says Americans might "have to start thinking about going somewhere else" if President Trump wins reelection. "At some point, if that project [to destroy democracy] was to be in any way successful, you’d have to think about going somewhere that is a true democracy, that has respect for the rule of law and human rights," the "All of Me" singer said in an interview published this week with Cosmopolitan UK.

Update  Of course, not everything from Hollywood is bilge. Here's the saloon shoot-out scene from Appaloosa, the film friend and commenter Jonah mentioned in the comments section of an earlier post.

I hope so

"The Left is going to find Amy Coney Barrett a tough nut to attack. She is smart, pleasant, and competent. Her personal history is an open book of service and commitment."

May God give her strength. And I hope she wears her extra-thick skin to the hearings. Some Democrats are already secretly warning about overreach and the perils of being overtly nasty; however, no doubt some on the committee will probably ignore the memo, and/or they'll all find other, perhaps more subtle, ways to attack her. I pray for her, and for the success of her nomination.

Here's what a Biden rally looks like

Notice the main features: (1) No more than ten people, and (2) no Joe Biden (that's Jill Biden sitting in for him).

Feel the excitement.

H/T: Gateway Pundit

Outstanding question from Scott Adams

How do I despise thee, let me count the ways

The governor I hate the most this week is Oregon's Kate Brown, who's fine with left-wing violence, but thinks a mere right-wing protest is practically some kind of Putsch.

Kate Brown. Gavin Newsom. Andrew Cuomo. This is why we have an Electoral College, so that the neurotics and imbeciles and ideologues who put people like these in charge do not get to impose their mad dystopian societies on the rest of us.

The raw materials of a police state

Just because many politicized FBI personnel, and the giant flock of cut-throat prosecutors in the DOJ (who frequently give the impression of vultures hanging around a waterhole, watching for a sick wildebeest) have proven, so far, to have been undone by their clumsy zeal and conspiratorial incompetence, doesn't mean that they are not capable of eventually upping their game. That's why, however late in the day it may be, I'm glad this corruption is being exposed.

But it will come to naught if Trump is defeated in November. The investigations, the turning over of all the rocks, the splashing of light on the activities of all the deep state vermin will abruptly end, and will result not only in no change, but in an expansion and hardening of the unlawful network we see operating today. If they can get General Flynn, getting you or me will be a milk run.

This is quite possibly the most self-defensive election in our nation's history.

Diana Rigg, RIP

As everyone knows by now, Dame Diana Rigg died last week.

An extremely accomplished actress, she is probably best known, at least in the United States, for her role as Emma Peel in the classic British television series, The Avengers

I recently came across the following YouTube video which shows her first and last appearances on The Avengers.

Unbelievable

And by "unbelievable", I mean "horrible, but quite believable".

Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents tasked by fired former Director James Comey to take down Donald Trump during and after the 2016 election were so concerned about the agency’s potentially illegal behavior that they purchased liability insurance to protect themselves less than two weeks before Trump was inaugurated president, previously hidden FBI text messages show.

If Trump is reelected, his first step should be to can FBI Director Christopher Wray and begin the process of cleaning out the rest of the rats' nests in the FBI and the intel agencies.

I tend to agree

If there is to be another civil war in the United States, it is far more likely to resemble the Spanish Civil War, in many respects, than our own earlier War Between the States.

So, who's supporting the anarchists who are terrorizing our cities? Looks like Jack Dorsey may be one of them (by the way, he looks like King Arthur's weaselly bastard son Mordred from some small town dinner theater production of Camelot): "Twitter's Jack Dorsey Funds Bail Project Linked to U-Haul Providing Supplies to Louisville Rioters".

Up-Chuck Schumer tries to pull a fast one

"Sen. Ted Cruz blocked a ceremonial resolution honoring the life of the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg after Democrats, under the direction of Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, tried to use the occasion to push a political message. The Texas Republican objected to language added to the resolution noting Ginsburg’s reported dying wish that a successor not be chosen until after the election..."

Well, for every problem, there's a solution...

It's within the realm of possibility, I suppose

"Ninth Circuit Court Overturns Death Of Ruth Bader Ginsburg".

America's Maginot Line

It consists of NeverTrumpers like David French and Jonah Goldberg. who think it would be awesome if Republicans postponed voting on a replacement for the late RBG in return for a Democrat promise not to pack the court in the future.

Did you get that? We give up something real and tangible, right now, in return for a promise by the Party of Lies not to do something bad down the road.

This is absolutely the stupidest attempt at strategy I have heard from Conservative, Inc., yet.

Outrageous

Not only will the state deny you and your property protection under the law, it will also punish you for trying to defend yourself - and if you commit suicide in the process, then I guess the state will pat itself on the back for saving the taxpayers some money. RIP, Jake Gardner.

RIP, Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Supreme Court justice Ginsburg died today.

Update  Well, that didn't take but a few seconds. The Democrats immediately began screeching that no replacement should be nominated until after the election; however, somewhat to my surprise, Mitch McConnell has promised a vote on whoever Trump nominates. 2020 just keeps getting wilder by the minute.

Update II  Ted Cruz, as is frequently the case, effectively cuts to the chase.

Of course

The decision by the Pittsburgh Steelers to honor a drive-by shooting thug apparently was made by management - possibly with the approval of the Democrat-supporting owners, the Rooney family.

I stopped watching all professional sports years ago, except for baseball which I dropped last year. I was surprised how easy it was to fill the time with more useful activities - e.g., improving my shooting skills at the range.

This is why I would decline to ever permit myself to run the risk of getting justice at the federal level

Update and bumped: Newt Gingrich addresses Fox's attempt to shut him down, and reveals even more details about Soros' networks.

I have attempted to understand what the end game is for George Soros, without anything like complete success. I do believe he is actively undermining institutions and processes associated with responsible forms of popular government - not just populist movements, but all forms of workable, popular government - because be doesn't trust most of the other 7.8 billion people on the planet and he wants to erect some kind of overarching global society run by a permanent bureaucracy staffed by similarly-minded corporate fascists, secure from the meddling masses.

Maybe I'm wrong. Perhaps he has found some secret way to make money from chaos and he's motivated by purely financial incentives, or maybe he's the anti-Christ and is carrying out a program for destroying the human race based on a plan constructed by the father of lies. I'm not sure it matters, anymore, to ascertain his motives. You do not absolutely have to have a motive to prove a crime, and the forensic evidence, alone, demonstrates that Soros is trying to destabilize democracies everywhere, and that the outcome is unacceptable to free people, whatever his rationale may be.

How fascinating - fascinating and alarming - to see FoxNews' clumsy, but apparently successful, effort to silence Newt Gingrich when be mentions Soros's financial support of leftwing DAs.  And how  ominous, yet unsurprising, to see the hydra-headed beast of his political operation continuing to expand its reach.

I have always enjoyed reading G.K. Chesterton, but I confess that I used to find many of his economic ideas naive and even archaic; I was particularly dismissive of his contempt for Big Capitalism. No longer. Great concentrations, whether of wealth or of power, are always potentially dangerous, and when wealth and power form alliances - especially when they transform themselves into a single malign force, indifferent to the will of the people, and ultimately corrupting it - that way lies the concentration camps and the gulags and the killing fields.

Assortment

Jazz critic Stanley Crouch has died. I used to catch his columns every now and then, and always found him to be a breath of fresh air, a man of intelligence and common sense who rejected the self-ghettoization of black nationalism. He also provided what was probably the greatest put-down of Spike Lee ever, calling him a "middle-class would-be street Negro" (H/T: Instapundit).  UPDATE:  Some more cool quotes via Powerline.

Redlining on the idiotmeter: "'Where Are The Police?' After Voting To Defund Cops, Minneapolis City Council Baffled Over Recent Crime Wave".

The support by Democrats and their propaganda operatives in the mainstream press of the violence associated with Antifa and BLM has created an open season on the police and on political opponents of the madness.

It's a crazy time, indeed, when a niece of Osama bin Laden turns out to be a better American patriot than the average Democrat office holder.

How about a little truth in labeling? Joe Biden has just received an endorsement from The Scientific American, a magazine which is neither scientific or American.

Hey, lady, your Freudian slip is showing

Cackling Commie Kamela Harris accidentally said out loud what a lot of people are thinking when she recently referred to the Harris administration at a campaign event in Arizona.

"Say, I'd love to have another shot at being president! I've got some great ideas...What? What's that? 'Harris', not 'Harrison'? Oh. Heh. Never mind!"

Update  I saw a Biden campaign ad today (the remote always seems to be out of reach), and he wants you to know he's going to find a vaccine for COVID-19. In fact, he has heroically volunteered to serve as the guinea pig for experimental medicines. Paco World News Daily (PWND) has obtained exclusive footage of Joe Biden bravely testing a new drug.

Update II  Oops! Our bad! We've just been handed a bulletin informing us that the video shows Joe Biden taking his daily dose of Metamucil.

Go figure

Haw!

State legislators, trying to figure out why God keeps unleashing bowl after bowl of wrath upon California, cast lots and threw all the remaining Republicans in the state into the Pacific Ocean in hopes that the plagues would subside. Both men were swallowed by a great fish and are expected to survive.

Hurry Sundown

Ace of Spades has a few recent videos  of Joe Biden, um, riding off into the sunset.

How do you think his minders are going to get him out of the debates? I think Nancy Pelosi tried to float the notion that they're not necessary because, you know, Trump, but I don't really think that will fly with the voters; however, maybe they'll just have to run with that, because there's no way Biden can survive a debate, and any excuse at all, or even no excuse, is better than having him get on the same stage with Trump (or, for that matter, appearing in a remote, split-screen setting with him).

Amazing

Every time one of these protest dummies does something stupid - like, for example, climbing on top of a moving squad car - there's always someone in the crowd who screams when the imbecile gets hurt, as if the person is an innocent victim, instead of a candidate for the Darwin Award.

For future reference

The concept of commie-run summer camps, popular in the 1940s and 1950s, continues today in a new form. Celebrity sports flop, Colin Kaepernick, is now running something called Know Your Rights Camp, a venue for the indoctrination of young "black and brown" people in the politics of racial divisiveness - or, as their mission statement puts it, "Our mission is to advance the liberation and well-being of Black and Brown communities through education, self-empowerment, mass-mobilization and the creation of new systems that elevate the next generation of change leaders." I'm not linking the organization's site; look it up and browse if you want to. Just know that it's out there, and that it's not the kind of operation where students say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning, or display the American flag as a symbol to be respected.

Great observations from one of our most distinguished cultural critics

Mark Steyn: "When I'm accused of being xenophobic or Islamophobic, thisaphobic or thataphobic, the charge is often formulated as 'otherizing' people. But the rampaging trustiefundies and psychotrannies are in effect self-otherizing - otherizing their entire civilizational inheritance, and those who still value it."

Ometeotl is said to have been a dual god in Aztec mythology. Old José, there, is just two kinds of stupid (at  least). You really did yourselves proud, citizens of Lynwood.

The Democrats nominated the wrong person to be their presidential candidate

Which is pretty obvious. One supposes that they simply hope to effectively create a one-party state, then it won't matter who the figurehead is.

But if there are any Democrats left who have the brains to see that the party's current path is leading to what will ultimately become a destructive (and self-destructive) revolution, they could do worse than consider boosting the future career of Tulsi Gabbard, who apparently isn't afraid of tackling cultural issues.

The Jesuits again

The Jesuit order in the Catholic Church has had a checkered history, generating extremely brave missionaries (and martyrs), such as the ones who went among the Indian tribes in North America in the 17th century, but also a large cabal of quasi or actual Marxists of the sort who have pushed liberation theology in South America and elsewhere for the last 40+ years. Now we learn that George Soros, whose tentacles seem to reach everywhere these days, is contributing money to the Jesuits.

I would suggest to Pope Francis, with all due humility, that if he would like to avoid the stigma of becoming the pope who winds up provoking more apostasy than Martin Luther and Calvin combined, he'd better stop looking on the Catholic Church as a wing of the International Socialist movement, with Jesus serving as a mere Chairman Emeritus, and return to (or, more likely, take up for the first time in his career) a stout defense of the ancient faith.

If I had known on January 1st of this dreadful year what I know now, I think I would have just stayed in bed.

And now, a word from our sponsor

I have little doubt that Trump would win a fair election (therein lies the rub)

As Victor Davis Hanson recently wrote, "[t]he effort to stop President Trump is growing comical."

In terms of bombshells, what does the Left do after the 2016 suit to decertify voting machines, the FISA court abuse, the effort to sabotage electors’ votes, the first impeachment drive, the Logan Act gambits, the Emoluments Clause joke, the 25th Amendment ruse, the Russian collusion hoax, the 22-month-asleep-at-the-wheel Mueller and his “all-stars,” Ukraine! Ukraine!, the second impeachment drive, and the 2020 trifecta of Trump as Typhoid Mary, Bull Connor, and Herbert Hoover?
The point is, in Jussie Smollett fashion, the demand for scandals is outrunning the supply and time grows short.

But even though Trump would win in a  fair election pretty handily,  we're looking down the barrel of what will probably be the biggest attempt at election fraud in history. The possible success of such a gambit provides an awful lot of food for thought - and quite a bit of heartburn. Let us pray (or rather, as the old song says, "Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition").

Deserving of its own post

Somebody has set rioter Horace Hotfoot to the Benny Hill theme, "Yackety Sax" (H/T to friend and commenter Veeshir).

Elsewhere, Steve Inman does the play-by-play. (H/T to friend and commenter Spiny Norman).

Best wishes on Labor Day!

Paco Enterprises wishes all of its employees a happy Labor Day. Go ahead and knock off an hour early this evening.

"Gee, thanks, boss!"

Van Cliburn performs Chopin's Scherzo No. 3 in C sharp minor.

I saw him play in Raleigh, NC a year or so after I had graduated high school; very much one of the musical highlights of my life.

RIP, Tom Seaver and Lou Brock

Quote of the week from Umpire Joe West, after tossing Nationals GM Mike Rizzo from a game

“I wouldn’t take that from a player. I wouldn’t take that from a manager,'” West said, via the Associated Press. “If it was Donald Trump, I’d eject him, too. But I’d still vote for him.”

Antifa's mad revolutionary skillz

ANTIFA Member Tosses Molotov At Cops, Ends Up Lighting BLM Activist On Fire Instead.

Video! Don't miss it. Instead of immediately doing the old "stop, drop and roll", Combustible Carl decides to light out with a Texas two-step.

The revolution: Bring. It. On.

Update  I'd love to see this guy's moves set to music. Maybe something old school, like the frog in this Warner Bros cartoon.

BOLO

Between now and election day, expect the Dem/Media Complex to push one fake scandal after another.

Something like this...

Who you gonna believe?

A political hack like Jeffrey Goldberg and his unnamed sources, or real soldiers and their families?

Sunday funnies

From Powerline's "The Week in Pictures".

Elephants: what clowns!

So close to a happy resolution

Yet it didn't quite happen. Joe Biden Accused of Groping Breast of Secret Service Agent’s Girlfriend During 2009 Photo-Op.

According to the report, an unidentified Secret Service agent was suspended for a week after the incident for shoving the vice president “after he cupped his girlfriend’s breast while the couple was taking a photo with him.”
“The situation got so heated … that others had to step in to prevent the agent from hitting the then-Vice President,” according to the report.

Ah, there's always those blasted "others", who manage to thwart the cause of justice.

A sad case of Trump Derangement Syndrome

Jim Gaffigan, the portly comedian with one of the fruitiest voices ever possessed by a heterosexual male (not being judgmental, just making an observation), has lately been flooding YouTube with videos of his various stand-up comedy routines. The sheer volume of these things, to put it charitably, far exceeds the quality of the material. I get it, though. The guy's married and has five children, so that's a lot of mouths to feed. Got to do the best you can.

Unfortunately, he turns out to be another "acceptable" Catholic who has come out against Trump, and has done so in a series of hysterically unhinged Tweets.

I am getting so sick of the knee-jerk vitriol being spouted by people who are complete ignoramuses with respect to history - even very contemporary history - and who take umbrage when anyone dares to question their toxic politics. Gaffigan, taken as an individual, is irrelevant. But he is emblematic of the fifth columnists - in the entertainment industry, in the bureaucracy, in academia, in the media, in sports - who pass themselves off as regular Joes or political moderates or even apolitical types until something, or someone, rises up to threaten the progressive rot that they either secretly support or blithely tolerate. Then, at last, the prospect of losing power and prestige, or maybe just being discomfited in their unthinking assumptions, finally flushes them out to condemn the people who have hired a knight-errant to slay their complacent and overfed pet dragons. In the aggregate, they are a not necessarily insignificant segment of the coalition of the "righteous" who, in one possible scenario envisioned by Victor Davis Hanson (see the previous post), will not hesitate to search out their enemies and persecute them.

Or maybe Gaffigan is just an idiot who believes everything he hears on CNN. In which case I would remind him of an important point made by the American literary and cultural critic Lionel Trilling: we have a moral obligation to be as intelligent as we can be.

So, either way, whether lazy dumbass or progressive fellow-traveler, Gaffigan is on the side of the gravediggers of our culture and our form of government, another "funny man" who can't see the gulag for the zeks.

Wise words (as always) from Victor Davis Hanson

An interesting interview of Victor Davis Hanson by former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, John Anderson. The whole thing is intriguing, but be sure, especially, to catch the last three minutes or so; positively chilling.

Update  Sorry, I had originally linked the wrong story. The link will now take you to the page with the Hanson interview (thanks for the correction, Rebecca).

Happy Feet Friday

Tex Williams with “That's What I Like About the West”.

Assortment

Anti-Semitism is on the rise - including in Joe Biden's back yard.

Guess the Anti-Semitism  doesn't trouble Biden that much, because his trip to Kenosha is centered on meeting the family of Joseph Blake, a violent criminal injured while resisting arrest. Should be interesting, considering that Blake's father is a rabid hater of Jews in particular, and whites in general.

Biden attempts joke, fails (as usual).

Let's keep a good thought.

Hmm. Not exactly Ned Kelly stuff, is it? This is what, I suspect, our "progressive" governors and mayors here in the states would love to do - and may wind up doing if the Democrats get their hands on the levers of power in November.

There is much work to do

The Republican Party needs an in-house revolution, and, frankly, so does the Catholic Church. Lay people need to quit taking references to believers as "sheep" quite so literally.
